Day 1

HELLLLOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Megan Dwyer, Reid Brigman, Naz Ahmad, Olivia Nelli, Charlie Lindsey, Makayla Hayes, Jeffery Harbin, Kristina Sheppard, Ross Sands, Milayla Rose, Donovan O'Donnell, Jennings Tumlin, AND Rebecca West are coming to you LIVE from the BASHFUL GROUP!

We arrived at Mallard Creek Community Center bright and early today with lots of excitement and some nervous feelings!! After meeting some of the counselors (they knew our names as soon as we arrived—pretty impressive), we heard from the ever so wonderful GRANT DEATON! He insured us and our family members that safety was MOST important while also letting us know what an awesome time we were going to have. We hugged and kissed our parents goodbye (and maybe shed a tear or two….maybe) as we hopped on the bus and vans and headed west for 23 days!!!! WE’RE PUMPED!!!

Once we were well on our way toward the South Cackilacky, the counselors and directors went over a few expectations about the trip as well as the ins and outs of the experience. We learned all about our food budget, our “typical” daily schedule, 30 ways NOT to get lost or left on TWB, and a little about what each group’s responsibility would be throughout the trip. To break the ice in the bus, we played a fun game called SPEED DATING. We rotated seats with the person in front of our seat to get to know them better. Those of us on the vans played a lot of name and ice breaker games, which helped us learn a lot about each other too!

Before we knew it, we were stopped at a rest stop in South Carolina… There we were given our FIRST of many tips from Grant –“Never miss an opportunity to use the bathroom”!!! Of course we took his advice!!

Once we loaded back on the vehicles and continued our journey toward Lagrange, we had a gourmet lunch made by our wonderful counselors– ham/turkey and cheese sandwiches, chips, and cookies. YUM!!!

A few hours, a few dozes, and a few get-to-know –you games later, we made it to LAGRANGE GEORGIA! Our second to last stop before LaGrange College was to WALLY WORLD!!!!! Many of us bought watches so we would never be late to catch the bus and vans. Most of us had some free time in Walmart while the Happy group (the first cooking group) learned how to shop for enough food to feed all of us under a tight budget!  Once they finished shopping for our first sit down dinner, we all loaded back on the vehicles and headed a few miles down the road to LaGrange College!!!!!

Once we got off the vehicles and gathered around the awning, we learned all about the history and current status of LaGrange College from the college president, Dr. Alexander. On top of his PLETHORA of school info, we were also were graced with Lexie Windell’s research information on LaGrange College!

After asking a few questions about the college to President Alexander, we split up into our groups to learn more about our jobs for the next three days. After a short job orientation, most of us (except site managers and dishwashers) had to start our jobs! We (the BASHFULS) started working on the blog, the Sleepys began cleaning the inside of the vehicles, the Dopeys began unloading the bus and sleeping gear from the vans, and the Happys began cooking our dinner! The Sneezys and Grumpys had a chance to set up their enos and sleeping bags and relax because their jobs didn’t need to be done until another time!

To determine which group would eat first, the Happy’s decided to play “Hunger Games”. Each group had to build a human pyramid. The group that finished first, with no one falling, got to eat first!!! The Bashful’s were lucky number 1!!!!

Dinner consisted of burgers, chips, and cookies. After dinner, we had our first competition—RELAY RACES! The relay race consisted of, balancing a cone on our head, running down, around the cone and back, dizzy bat and the army crawl!!! We ended the competition with a race to see which boy and girl could run the fastest!!! CONGRATS to MITCHELL NOBLES AND MADDI HATFIELD!!!!  -- OUR WINNERS!
