DAY 5
ATTENTION Family and Friends: We will be hiking the Grand Canyon tomorrow!!! The internet connection is spotty but the blog will be posted as soon possible! Thank you for being so patient with us!!! Love y'all!
Before we begin the blog, we would like to tell you all how energetic
Vicky was today. Although she slept the same if not less than us, she stayed
with the bus driver, narrated the scenes all around us (teaching us so much),
and was the wind beneath our tires. Her attitude for the day made each site much
more exciting with her constant caws (she acts like a bird on the microphone),
and her constant laughing.
At an early time, when everyone was catching z’s on the bus,
Kaddy played bagpipes on the speakers and woke everyone up. WAKEY WAKEY!!!!!! With
squinted eyes, we looked at the front in contempt, but when the weird video
soundtrack of the many types of muffins (from banana to Israeli Palestine
muffins) were put on the speakers, a lot of us began to laugh, making our day a
lot better.
For breakfast, we had jumbo muffins again. THEY’RE THE BEST! And, just to emphasize how
amazing these muffins were, we had to dedicate this extra sentence to it. The
banana halves were a great addition, too.
As we continued through New Mexico, the bus had another
raving dance party (they played Fergilicious, and a lot of us danced with a lot
of passion). We danced in the aisles and after we were through Gina Smirz
plucked Daireon Duff and Ross Sands, and Zack Merritt’s eyebrows to make sure
they looked picture-perfect for the Grand Canyon. To add a little anecdote, we
figured out that people could not feel others licking their elbows. As the
dance party closed down, some of us played mafia, and many others slept.
Overall, a lot us became better friends, and started to grow friendships that
we could tell would last a lifetime. Our
TWB family is getting stronger everyday!
For lunch, we had PB&Js with apple slices, a new thing
that we have grown to love (and are taking to the Grand Canyon *spoiler). Josh
Feemster had the amazing idea to use apple slices to spread the peanut butter…
only because we didn’t have knives!
On our way to Arizona, there was a crash on the road, and we
were in a stand-still as we began to get a small taste of Arizona’s fresh air.
We were in New Mexico for too long. A lot of us bonded, and once again, a lot
of us slept. To add, some cars crossed the grass median of the highway to get
on the reverse highway, but luckily, Henry’s brilliant mind refrained from
doing such actions. To pass time... CHINESE FIRE DRILL!!!!!!!!
When we arrived at the Painted Desert, we saw such colorful
sand that looked like millions of miles of moon sand. It was such a beautiful
sight, and only added to the amazing sites of TWB.
The Petrified Forest, which Laura Hay filled us in with so
many cool and interesting facts about its creation and its curses, was amazing.
It was filled with fossilized trees, and they were really interesting. Trey
Armstrong talked about the great state of Arizona, and filled us in with weird
facts. If we harm a cactus, we could go to jail for 25 years. Thanks, Trey, for
the warning. Jennings also spoke about the Painted Desert, and how it could
have been created by erosion, or its many theories.

From the Petrified Forest we made our way to Flagstaff,
Arizona where we went to a Safeway to get dinner/snacks for the day ahead of
us, or others chose the other option of eating the ever-tasty Golden Arch
Supper Club. ZACK MERRITT BOUGHT OUT THE ENTIRE SECTION OF DRAGON FRUIT AND
SOLD ONE TO VICKY FOR A MERE 5 DOLLAR then continued to sell the rest to other
TWBers. While all of the buying and eating was happening our lovely Miss
America van was sadly tapped by another car which held us up for just a few
moments. After gathering back we made the 2 hour car ride to the Grand Canyon.
We cannot do the Grand Canyon justice with pictures! You HAVE TO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF!!!!!! I think I speak
for all TWBers when I say it brought a tear to our eyes, took our breath away,
and it made us appreciate the great country we live in.
